She gave everything up for him. She was talented, and had been starting to get noticed. Like him, she is a sculptor. But she became his servant. Insidiously. She forgot herself, denied herself and, as this short novel opens, is trying to run away.

One might be reminded (although it isn’t that at all!) of the story of Camille Claudel and Rodin. Unfortunately, the subject is terribly common. Women die of it sometimes, without their entourage’s realizing what drove them to suicide. In her distinct and poetic style, Violaine Bérot portrays the tragedy that turning into a nobody represents.
