Soifs d’Orient
Du Baïkal au Bengal, ICaroline Riegel
From March 2004 to December 2005, Caroline Riegel journeyed across Asia, from Lake Baïkal, in Siberia to Bangkok. An odyssey through lands where people’s lives are subjected to waters’whims. As a specialist in hydraulic constructions, she planned her itinerary to allow herself all the time it would take to understand the ties that bind humanity to this element.
In this two-volume narrative – the second is coming next May – we follow her through the taiga, over the vast Baikal with the fishermen, and across part of the Gobi desert in Mongolia, on horse back, on foot and then with a camel. With cheerful self-confidence, this young women allowed her journey to have a very different rhythm from those of many contemporary adventurers : Caroline Riegel took the time to stop, contemplate and make friends… and even wound up wintering with a group of Budhist nuns !
A travel journey in a similar vein to Bernard Ollivier’s Long March.
An exceptional adventure for an exceptional young woman.
