Ouvre ton aile au vent
Eloi Audoin-Rouzeau
In the near future, a bird-borne epidemic strikes the planet. Raising farmyard birds has been banned, and French society is writhing under draconian restrictions. Once a year though, the population still gets a chance to celebrate: a specially raised duck is released from the roof of the famous Tour d’Argent restaurant in front of an excited crowd. The winner of the hunt through Paris will be able to savor the animal at a dinner with the French president. But this year, the duck puts up more of a fight than usual. Its flight through Paris is an opportunity to meet with people who stay on the margins of all the hullaballoo. Eventually, an empathetic Parisian decides to save the flying scapegoat at his own risk, becoming an ordinary hero by bringing it to Ireland, a depopulated country that has become a sanctuary for wild birds.
